You Asked, We Delivered: Security Training Built Around the Learner

Fair pricing, evening and weekend courses, accommodation options, experienced instructors and no hidden fees: how learner feedback is shaping the way we deliver security training.

Training should be built around the learner, not the convenience of the training provider. So we asked learners across the UK private security industry what they actually wanted. They told us. We listened. And we delivered.

You Asked, and We Delivered

At The Security Tutor, we believe training should be built around the learner, not the convenience of the training provider.

Over the years, we've spoken to people working across the UK private security industry. From Door Supervisors and Security Officers to Close Protection Operatives, we've listened to the frustrations, challenges and experiences they've encountered when booking and attending training courses.

And one thing has become abundantly clear.

Learners aren't asking for the impossible. They're asking for training providers to listen.

They want fair prices, convenient course dates, experienced instructors, clear communication and support that doesn't simply disappear once the course has finished.

So rather than telling you what we think you need, we asked what you actually wanted.

You told us. We listened. And we delivered.

1. "Why Should I Have to Travel Miles Just to Attend a Training Course?"

You asked for more convenient training. We delivered accommodation options.

We understand that not everyone lives within easy travelling distance of a suitable training provider.

For some learners, attending a refresher course means leaving home early, spending hours on the road and facing the prospect of another long drive after a full day of training.

And when you're already taking time away from work, the additional cost of fuel, accommodation and meals can quickly add up.

That's why, on selected courses, we offer accommodation for learners travelling 60 miles or more, or facing a journey of 90 minutes or longer.

We believe that travelling a considerable distance to improve your professional qualifications shouldn't mean arriving exhausted before your training has even started.

Our accommodation arrangements are designed to make attending a course more practical, affordable and comfortable.

Because the distance between your home and our classroom shouldn't be a barrier to your professional development.

Accommodation is available on selected courses, subject to eligibility, availability and booking conditions.

2. "The Advertised Price Looked Great, Until All the Extras Were Added."

You asked for transparent pricing. We delivered no hidden charges.

We've all seen it.

A course advertised at an attractive price, only for the learner to discover additional charges for examinations, certification, administration or other essential elements of the training.

Suddenly, that great deal doesn't look quite so great.

We don't believe in doing business that way.

At The Security Tutor, the price you see when booking your course is the price you pay.

No unexpected examination fees. No surprise certification charges. No last-minute administration costs.

We make it clear what's included in your course before you commit to booking.

If you choose a refresher course that includes Emergency First Aid at Work, we'll tell you exactly what you're getting and exactly what it costs.

It's simple.

One course. One clearly advertised price. No hidden surprises.

Because trust should begin long before you walk into the classroom.

3. "I Work Shifts. Why Are All the Courses During the Week?"

You asked for flexible course dates. We delivered evenings and weekends.

The private security industry doesn't operate from nine to five, Monday to Friday.

So why should training?

Many of the people attending our courses work nights, weekends, rotating shifts and unpredictable operational schedules.

Taking several days away from work to complete mandatory refresher training can mean losing valuable income, using annual leave or arranging cover for existing commitments.

You told us that traditional weekday courses simply weren't suitable for everyone.

So we've introduced evening and weekend training options alongside our weekday courses.

This gives learners greater flexibility to choose training that works around their professional and personal commitments.

Whether you're working full-time in security, combining security work with another job or balancing work with family responsibilities, we want to make accessing quality training as straightforward as possible.

After all, the security industry operates around the clock.

Your training options should reflect that.

4. "The Instructor Just Read Everything Off the PowerPoint."

You asked for experienced instructors. We delivered people who know the industry.

This was one of the most interesting pieces of feedback we received.

Learners told us about attending courses where instructors simply worked their way through a PowerPoint presentation, reading slides aloud without providing meaningful context, relevant examples or opportunities for genuine discussion.

Now, don't get us wrong.

Presentations and structured learning materials have their place in professional training.

But a PowerPoint presentation is a teaching aid. It shouldn't be the instructor.

At The Security Tutor, our instructors are drawn from people with real operational experience in the private security industry.

They're people who have worked on the ground, dealt with challenging situations, managed operational risks and developed their skills through practical industry experience.

Just as importantly, they've developed the teaching qualifications and instructional skills needed to pass that knowledge on effectively.

Because being good at your job doesn't automatically make you a good instructor. It takes both operational experience and the ability to teach.

Our approach is to bring those two qualities together.

We want learners to understand not just what they're being taught, but why it matters and how it applies to the realities of working in today's private security industry.

We encourage questions, professional discussion and the sharing of operational experience.

We don't just want you to pass your course. We want you to leave as a more knowledgeable, confident and capable security professional.

5. "I've Passed My Course. Why Am I Still Waiting for My Certificate?"

You asked for faster results and better communication. We delivered a more efficient process.

Completing your course is one thing.

Receiving confirmation of your qualification is another.

For learners undertaking mandatory SIA refresher training, delays in processing results can create unnecessary anxiety, particularly when a licence renewal deadline is approaching.

You told us that waiting for results, not knowing whether paperwork had been submitted and having to chase training providers for updates were common frustrations.

We understood.

So we've made prompt administration and clear communication part of our training process.

When your course finishes, our instructors complete and submit the course documentation for Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) and awarding organisation processing on the same day.

Naturally, awarding organisations must complete their own checks and verification procedures, and those timescales can vary.

We can't control how quickly an awarding organisation processes a qualification, and we won't make promises about certification dates that are outside our control.

But we can control how efficiently we do our part.

And that's exactly what we do.

Once the awarding organisation has confirmed your successful result, we notify you by both email and text message.

No unnecessary chasing. No wondering whether your results have been submitted.

Just a straightforward process and clear communication.

Because your training provider's responsibilities shouldn't end when you leave the classroom.

6. "By the Time We Get a Break, There's Barely Enough Time to Grab Some Lunch."

You asked for better lunch arrangements. We delivered.

We understand that attending a training course can be a long day, particularly when you're working towards a qualification that requires a set number of Guided Learning Hours (GLH).

These requirements are there for a reason, and as a responsible training provider, we have an obligation to ensure that the necessary learning hours are completed.

But you told us that the structured timetable and limited opportunities to leave the training venue can sometimes make something as simple as getting lunch more difficult than it needs to be.

Whether it's finding somewhere nearby to buy food, queuing during a busy lunch period or rushing back to avoid being late for the next session, it's an unnecessary inconvenience during an already busy training day.

You told us that having somewhere to prepare your own lunch, or being able to grab something to eat without leaving the training venue, would make a real difference.

So we listened.

At The Security Tutor, we've introduced lunch arrangements designed to make your training day that little bit easier.

Depending on the course and training venue, learners will have access to either:

  • A provided buffet, allowing you to enjoy something to eat without having to leave the training venue.
  • Kitchen facilities, giving you somewhere to prepare or heat your own lunch during the scheduled break, subject to the facilities available.

It's a relatively small change, but one we believe makes a meaningful difference to the overall learning experience.

After all, when you're spending the day learning, concentrating and participating in practical training, the last thing you should be worrying about is whether you'll have enough time to find something to eat.

We're not trying to reinvent the wheel.

We're simply trying to make the experience of attending training more comfortable, convenient and enjoyable.

Because sometimes it's the little things that make the biggest difference.

Lunch arrangements and available facilities will be confirmed in your course joining instructions.

7. "Once You've Finished the Course, You're on Your Own."

You asked for better aftercare and career support. We're building something bigger.

For too long, professional training in the private security industry has followed a familiar pattern.

Book a course. Attend the training. Pass the assessment. Receive your certificate.

And that's it.

The relationship between the learner and the training provider effectively ends.

But we believe that completing a qualification should be the beginning of further professional development, not the end of the relationship.

You told us you wanted more.

More opportunities to develop your skills.

More information about continuing professional development.

Better connections with employers and recruiters.

And more support when navigating an industry that can sometimes feel fragmented and difficult to access.

So we're developing something that goes beyond the classroom.

We're currently working on an industry-focused application, planned for launch in 2027, designed to help security professionals connect with opportunities, develop their careers and succeed in the private security industry.

Our vision is to bring operators, employers and training providers closer together through a platform built specifically around the needs of our industry.

From professional profiles and employment opportunities to training information and career development, we're working towards a more connected approach to supporting security professionals.

We believe that when someone chooses The Security Tutor, they're not simply purchasing a training course.

They're investing in their future, and we want to be part of that journey.

More details will follow as development progresses.

We're Listening. And We're Not Finished.

The private security industry is constantly evolving.

Training requirements change. Operational challenges develop. Expectations increase.

And training providers have a responsibility to evolve alongside the people they serve.

At The Security Tutor, we don't believe in doing things a certain way simply because that's how they've always been done.

We believe in listening to the people who actually undertake the training, understanding the challenges they face and doing something meaningful about them.

Here's What We've Delivered So Far

  • Accommodation for those travelling further. Accommodation options on selected courses for learners travelling 60 miles or more, or facing a journey of 90 minutes or longer.
  • Transparent, upfront pricing. The price you see when booking is the price you pay. No hidden examination, certification or administration charges.
  • Courses that fit around your life. Evening and weekend training options alongside traditional weekday courses, providing greater flexibility for those working shifts or juggling other commitments.
  • Instructors who know the industry. Operationally experienced, appropriately qualified tutors who bring genuine industry knowledge, practical examples and real-world experience into the classroom.
  • A more efficient certification process. Same-day submission of completed course paperwork for IQA and awarding organisation processing, with email and text notifications once results are confirmed.
  • Food and refreshments during training. Buffet lunches or access to kitchen facilities, depending on the course and venue, so you can enjoy your scheduled break without the pressure of having to leave the training centre.
  • Career support beyond the classroom. An industry-focused application currently in development, planned for launch in 2027, designed to connect security professionals with employment opportunities, training and continuing professional development.

Because Your Training Experience Matters

We're not claiming to have every answer.

But we're prepared to ask the questions, listen to the feedback and make changes where they're needed.

Because ultimately, the success of any training provider shouldn't be measured simply by how many certificates it issues.

It should be measured by the quality of the training it delivers, the experience it provides and the difference it makes to the people who trust it with their professional development.

Our learners are at the heart of everything we do, and their feedback will continue to shape how we deliver our courses and develop our services.

We know there's always room for improvement.

And that's precisely why we'll keep asking, keep listening and keep adapting.

You asked. We listened. We delivered.

And we'll keep listening.
